Court Ordered Evaluations,Explained
A clinical evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that looks at the whole picture: substance use, mental health, family situation, and the circumstances that brought you to court. A certified counselor completes the assessment and writes a report with recommendations that judges, attorneys, and agencies in Georgia accept.
Here is why this page exists. Court paperwork often says one sentence: Obtain a clinical evaluation and follow all recommendations; That one sentence confuses a lot of people. What kind of evaluation? Who does it? What are they looking for? Let me break it down in plain English so you can stop guessing and start handling it.
Who Needs a Clinical Evaluation
- People ordered by a judge as a condition of their case, bond, or probation due to a DUI.
- Parents involved in custody matters or working a case plan
- Defendants whose attorneys want an evaluation done before court, to show the judge initiative

What Happens and What You Get
We sit down together, in person or on Zoom, for a structured conversation about your history, your charge, and your life. No trick questions. Then I write a report that tells the court what it needs to know and tells you, in plain English, exactly what your next steps are. If the recommendation includes classes or counseling, you can complete those with us or another provider.
One more thing, because I believe in keeping it real: an evaluation done before your court date is one of the strongest moves you can make. Judges notice the person who showed up having already handled their business. Ask your attorney about it.
