Meet Derek Collins

Derek's story doesn't start behind a desk — it starts on the other side of the system. Years ago, he was arrested for selling bootleg DVDs and CDs. He was entered into a pre-trial diversion program and sent to complete a substance use evaluation, where he tested positive for cocaine. What followed was six months of substance use treatment — and a turning point that would change everything.
Inside that treatment program, something clicked. Derek saw the work being done around him and thought, I can do this. He made a vow: if he ever got his life together and cleaned up his act, he would pay forward the second chance he had been given. He kept that promise.
After overcoming his cocaine addiction, Derek went to work at a treatment facility, then moved into DUI schools, and eventually stepped out on his own. Over the past fifteen years, he has built a court-mandated practice that now spans five locations across the Atlanta metro area.
Today, Derek is the founder of the National Association of Court Approved Treatment Providers and CEO of The Diversion Center in Atlanta, Georgia — where he certifies probation officers, parole officers, and providers delivering court-mandated services.
